How to stop peeing too often

A list of methods to stop urinating too frequently starting with bladder training

You can train your bladder to wee less often in 6 to 12 weeks, you have to be very strict and be ready to accept the bad days when your bladder may be extra sensitive for whatever reason. There will be days when you feel like you are making no progress or even feel like your peeing more often than before the bladder training but rest assured bladder training does work.

Start your bladder training by recording your current urination schedule so keep a written diary of what times you are going to the toilet to urinate and the length of time between each visit. When you have it written down you will want to add 15 minutes between each urination. So if your normal routine was to pee every hour we want to increase that to 1 hour and 15 minutes between each pee.

When you feel the urge to urinate hold it for at least 5 minutes you may notice the urge to pee goes away for a few minutes and then comes back, your bladder will give more than 1 urge to pee before you are actually anywhere near your full bladder capacity. It is not dangerous to hold your urine in for the first few urges in fact there is likely lots of space left in your bladder when you get the first and second urge to urinate.

After you have held your urine in for 5 minutes wait to see if the urge returns, if it does return hold it again until the feeling lessens or goes away try to push it to 15 minutes. What often happens is the urge may go away for more than 30 minutes before it returns if this happens its obviously a good thing and we want to take advantage of that by only urinating when the urge to urinate has fully returned. It is never a good idea to urinate when the urge is very mild we want to teach the bladder to use more of its capacity before it sends the urge to urinate signals.

If you are struggling to hold your urine in for the full 15 minutes then start with 5 minutes and build your way up to 15 minutes using distractions and deep slow breathing, it is helpful to stop the urge to pee by scrunching your toes up and clenching your fists these are common distraction techniques. Use Kegel exercises to help strengthen the muscles that hold your urine in.

Once you have managed to add 15 minutes between urinations you will use the same method to increase the times between urinations over the weeks and months until you are able to hold your pee comfortably for 3 to 6 hours.

Find out the foods and drinks your bladder dislikes

People often think as long as they avoid caffeine and alcohol they are avoiding all bladder irritants, this is simply not true as bladder irritants are not the same for everyone. The foods and drinks that irritate my bladder may be different to the ones that irritate your bladder, first of all avoid the obvious ones like caffeine and alcohol. If that helps then great but if you still urinate too often you may have a food or drink that does not agree with your bladder.

Here's the boring part you need to keep track of what you eat and drink each day whiles also keeping a diary of the times you urinated. Do this for at least 2 weeks try to vary your food and drink as much as you can over the 2 weeks and try to discover what foods and drinks may be irritating your bladder. The good thing about this is you may discover foods that help your bladder too, for me I noticed the days I had a banana early in the day I urinated less often this may not be the same for you but we are all unique.

Common bladder irritants include citrus fruits, fruit juices, tomatoes and tomato based foods, ALL carbonated drinks with or without caffeine, chocolate and hot chocolate, spicy foods and off course tea, coffee and alcohol. But there may be other foods and drinks that effect your bladder which is why a food and drink diary combined with a urination diary is so effective at finding our your good and bad bladder foods and drinks.

Supplements to stop frequent urination and bladder irritation

There are supplements available that work very well for some people and very little for others so the best approach with supplements for frequent urination is to buy the best quality supplements but do not put all of your hope on them to solve your bladder problems. It is best to combine them with the bladder training we discussed earlier. I will give a link below to the pumpkin seed oil that had a positive effect on my bladder but there are no guarantees they will work for you too.

So I had no idea there were any supplements that can help with bladder problems until one day I was in a health store reading the back of a bottle of pumpkin seed oil capsules and noticed it said - *supports Prostate & Urinary Tract Health * upon further research I found that people have been using them for bladder irritation and for peeing too often and getting good results. It is not a fast or instant result it took a good few weeks before I noticed a difference but I had stopped waking in the night to urinate so I have used them ever since because that was a huge deal for me and helps me get a better sleep for work so worth every penny to me.
